A Flydubai aircraft heading from Dubai to Tel Aviv was forced to divert to Saudi Arabia after an alarming incident involving the pilots, sending passengers into a state of panic and prompting a major security response. The aircraft landed safely at Tabuk Airport, while both pilots were transported to hospital with injuries.
The flight, identified as FZ1073, departed Dubai International Airport for Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel. It was operating normally until an incident developed during the flight. According to flight-tracking information, the aircraft experienced a sudden and significant descent.
Reuters reported that the plane dropped approximately 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds. The sudden change was followed by emergency signals, including one indicating possible unlawful interference. Such a signal can alert authorities to the possibility that someone has interfered with the operation of an aircraft.
The emergency transmission triggered concern in Israel. Because the aircraft was carrying Israeli passengers and appeared to be facing a potentially serious threat, Israeli military aircraft were reportedly scrambled. Officials initially had to consider the possibility that the plane had been hijacked.
The situation later appeared to be connected to a violent confrontation involving the two pilots. Israeli officials told Reuters that the co-pilot was believed to have stabbed the captain. According to the officials, cabin crew members entered the cockpit and helped take control of the aircraft.

AP reported that passengers heard screams and shouting and that some people near the front of the plane were aware of a confrontation involving the pilots. A passenger account relayed through a family member described the aircraft losing control and people attempting to restrain an attacker.
At some point during the emergency, control of the aircraft was stabilized. The plane then headed toward Saudi Arabia rather than continuing to Israel. The decision to land in Tabuk provided the crew with an airport capable of handling the emergency and allowed injured people to receive medical attention.
Tabuk airport authorities said the aircraft had made a distress call at around 8:44 a.m. local time. It landed safely approximately an hour later. Both the captain and first officer were taken to hospital after sustaining injuries. Passengers were also assisted by Saudi authorities.
Flydubai confirmed that the aircraft had experienced an incident during the journey and had safely landed at Tabuk. The airline said all passengers were safe and accounted for and that its teams were cooperating with the relevant authorities.
The event attracted attention beyond aviation circles because of the route’s political and regional significance. Flydubai operates regular services between Dubai and Tel Aviv, and the UAE-Israel air connection has become an important part of travel between the two countries since their diplomatic normalization in 2020.
Saudi Arabia’s involvement was also notable. Although Riyadh and Jerusalem do not have formal diplomatic relations, Saudi authorities have previously assisted aircraft carrying Israelis during emergencies.
The investigation will now determine how the cockpit confrontation began, who was responsible for the injuries and how the flight crew and passengers responded. Authorities will also examine the emergency signals and aircraft flight data to establish a precise sequence of events.
For the passengers, the most immediate outcome was that the plane reached the ground safely. The pilots were hospitalized, and officials continued working to arrange the passengers’ onward journey to Israel.
