The National Testing Agency (NTA) has informed the Supreme Court that several new safeguards are being introduced to prevent any recurrence of irregularities in the NEET-UG examination process after allegations of a paper leak triggered nationwide concern. In its affidavit submitted before the apex court, the agency outlined a broad framework of reforms intended to strengthen examination security and restore public confidence.

The controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 examination erupted after allegations surfaced that question papers had been leaked before the exam was conducted. The issue led to protests by students and parents in multiple states, while several petitions were filed before the Supreme Court demanding cancellation of the examination and stricter accountability measures.

The NTA, in response to the allegations, stated that preserving the integrity of the examination system is of utmost importance. The agency assured the court that extensive corrective actions have already been initiated to eliminate vulnerabilities and ensure fair opportunities for all candidates.

According to the affidavit, one of the most important reforms involves the introduction of end-to-end encryption for question paper handling. The agency said all confidential documents related to the examination would now be secured using advanced digital encryption technologies and multi-factor authentication systems. Access to question papers will be restricted to authorized personnel only.

The NTA also proposed the use of GPS-enabled tracking systems to monitor the transportation of examination papers. Vehicles carrying confidential materials will remain under real-time surveillance throughout the distribution process. Authorities believe this system will reduce the risk of unauthorized access or tampering.

Another major safeguard discussed in the affidavit is biometric verification at examination centers. The agency plans to introduce fingerprint scanning, facial recognition technology, and digital attendance systems to prevent impersonation and fraudulent practices during the examination.

In addition to technological reforms, the NTA informed the court that examination centers would be subjected to stricter inspection standards. Institutions with weak security arrangements or previous records of malpractice may no longer be allowed to conduct national-level examinations. Enhanced CCTV monitoring and improved infrastructure standards are also expected to become mandatory.

The affidavit further highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in future examinations. AI-powered surveillance systems may be deployed to monitor unusual patterns, suspicious candidate behavior, and abnormal score trends. Such systems could help authorities identify organized cheating attempts more efficiently.

The NTA also stated that coordination with local administrations and law enforcement agencies would be significantly strengthened. Special monitoring cells and rapid-response teams may be established during examination periods to immediately address complaints or suspicious activities.

The Supreme Court, while hearing petitions related to the controversy, observed that even a small lapse in the examination process could affect the careers of lakhs of students. The court stressed the need for maintaining trust and transparency in competitive examinations conducted across the country.

The NEET-UG paper leak controversy has sparked a larger debate about the security of high-stakes examinations in India. Education experts and student organizations have called for long-term structural reforms, including stronger digital infrastructure, independent oversight mechanisms, and stricter penalties for those involved in malpractice.

Meanwhile, investigative agencies continue probing the alleged leak. Several arrests have reportedly been made in connection with organized networks accused of illegally accessing and distributing examination papers. Authorities are examining whether similar patterns exist in other competitive examinations as well.

The NTA concluded in its affidavit that it remains committed to conducting examinations in a transparent, fair, and secure manner. The agency expressed confidence that the newly proposed safeguards would help restore public faith in the examination system and ensure that deserving students are evaluated through a credible and merit-based process.
