In a devastating turn of events, a festival in Goa turned fatal when a stampede at a popular temple left at least six people dead and numerous others injured. The incident took place during a key event in the annual religious festival at the Shri Shantadurga temple, which draws crowds of thousands to the temple each year. This year’s festival, however, ended in disaster when a stampede occurred just as the rituals were about to begin.

The Chaos Unfolds
Devotees had been waiting for hours to catch a glimpse of the rituals performed inside the temple. As the procession began, large crowds surged forward, with many attempting to squeeze into the temple’s narrow entryways. According to those present, panic began when the gates opened to allow devotees in. In the resulting crush, people were trampled, some falling unconscious in the chaos. Eyewitnesses reported that the stampede lasted for only a few minutes, but it was enough to cause significant damage. The stampede not only led to fatalities but also left dozens of others with injuries, many of them serious.

Victims and Their Families
Among the dead were both locals and tourists, with many relatives of the victims expressing heartbreak over the loss. Authorities have confirmed that the bodies of the deceased were found at different spots in the vicinity of the temple, while the injured were quickly attended to and rushed to the hospital. Many of the injured, most of whom suffered broken bones, lacerations, and head injuries, are still receiving medical treatment, with some in critical condition.
