Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari chaired the first Cabinet meeting of the new West Bengal government and approved six major projects aimed at accelerating development and improving public infrastructure.

The meeting focused heavily on economic revival, administrative efficiency, and public welfare. Ministers discussed strategies to improve governance delivery while also encouraging investment and job creation.

Among the most significant decisions was the approval of a statewide transport infrastructure plan that includes highway expansion and bridge development. Officials say the project will improve connectivity across rural and urban regions.

The Cabinet also approved a new industrial policy initiative intended to attract companies in manufacturing and logistics sectors. The administration expects the project to generate large-scale employment opportunities.

A major rural water supply project was also cleared during the meeting. The government plans to expand access to clean drinking water in underserved villages facing seasonal shortages.

Healthcare reforms approved by the Cabinet include district hospital upgrades, expanded ambulance networks, and establishment of critical care units in remote regions.

The government additionally approved educational modernization initiatives focused on digital learning systems and vocational skill programs.

Urban development proposals involving drainage upgrades, sanitation systems, and affordable housing were also finalized during the Cabinet session.

Following the meeting, Suvendu Adhikari stated that his administration would pursue “fast-paced development with accountability.” He added that departments would be closely monitored to ensure timely execution.

Supporters of the government described the first Cabinet decisions as bold and development-oriented. Industry representatives particularly welcomed the investment and infrastructure proposals.

Opposition parties, however, argued that announcements alone would not guarantee results. They demanded detailed financial plans and implementation schedules.

Political experts believe the Cabinet meeting was strategically important because it allowed the government to immediately project an image of action and preparedness.

The administration is expected to release additional policy announcements in the coming weeks as departments begin implementing the approved projects.
