The residents of Delhi-NCR were rudely awakened on the morning of February 17, 2025, when a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck. Occurring at 5:36 AM IST, the tremors were so strong that they shook buildings and caused household items to fall. Many residents of Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad rushed to their balconies or open spaces as a safety precaution, fearing further tremors.
Social media posts flooded in, with people sharing video footage of the shaking. “I was still in bed when the tremors started. I could feel my entire building swaying. It was a strange feeling,” shared Aarti Mehra, a resident of East Delhi.
While the earthquake caused panic, authorities quickly assured citizens that no major structural damage or injuries had been reported. The epicenter, located near Dhaula Kuan, was relatively close to the city’s center, which intensified the tremors. Local authorities issued a safety advisory, urging residents to remain alert for potential aftershocks, a common occurrence after such tremors.
