On February 28, 2025, an avalanche struck the Badrinath region of Uttarakhand, leaving over 40 workers of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) missing. In response, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has dispatched four teams to assist in the ongoing rescue operation. As of now, 32 workers have been rescued, and the authorities are making continuous efforts to locate the missing individuals.

The avalanche, which occurred near the border area, left the workers trapped under heavy snow and debris. The BRO workers were engaged in road construction work for the strategic infrastructure development in the region. Due to the area’s remote location, the rescue efforts are proving to be challenging.

The NDRF has been working relentlessly to clear the debris and search for survivors. With temperatures well below freezing and difficult terrain, the teams are working under harsh conditions. The local administration has also called in additional resources, including helicopters for aerial surveillance and rapid transportation of medical teams.

Authorities have requested all civilians to avoid the Badrinath route to ensure that rescue operations can proceed without any hindrance. The avalanche comes during the winter season, when snowstorms are frequent, making it all the more difficult to conduct such operations.
