The box office performance of Udta Teer improved considerably on Saturday, with the Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan-starrer recording stronger reported collections as the day progressed. The increase in evening and night occupancy accompanied a rise in daily revenue, helping the film cross ₹10 crore in cumulative domestic net earnings.
According to reports citing Sacnilk, the film collected approximately ₹7.25 crore net in India on Day 2, compared with ₹4.10 crore on Friday. Its two-day domestic net total reached ₹11.35 crore, while its reported worldwide gross stood at ₹16.28 crore.
The figures suggest that Saturday played an important role in improving the film’s opening-weekend position.
Morning Shows Begin Slowly
The reported occupancy figures indicate that Udta Teer had a relatively modest start on Saturday morning.
Morning screenings recorded approximately 8.54% occupancy. The figure increased to 27.62% during afternoon shows and 33% in the evening, before reaching around 42.69% during night screenings.
This pattern shows that the film’s strongest reported occupancy came during the later part of the day.
Such a trend is not unusual for theatrical releases. Audiences often prefer evening or night shows because they fit more conveniently around work, school and other daytime commitments. Saturday also gives viewers more opportunities to organise outings with family and friends.
However, the figures should not be interpreted as proof that every theatre experienced the same pattern. Occupancy varies by city, venue, showtime and seat availability.
Collections Rise Despite a Modest Opening
The reported Day 2 collection of ₹7.25 crore represented a 76.8% increase over Friday’s ₹4.10 crore net earnings.
This improvement was significant because the opening day had not delivered a particularly large collection. The stronger Saturday result raised the domestic total to ₹11.35 crore net.
The weekend response will be particularly important for the film because a rise in collections over the first few days can help build momentum. Nevertheless, the percentage increase must be viewed alongside the overall earnings. A large jump from a relatively small opening does not automatically establish long-term commercial success.
The film will need to maintain ticket sales over the remainder of the weekend and into the working week.
The Film’s Premise May Help It Stand Out
Directed by Aakash Kaushik, Udta Teer combines comedy with espionage. The film centres on Bilal Ahmad, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, a Pakistani intelligence operative who loses his memory following an explosion.
His loss of memory causes him to mistake himself for an Indian counter-terrorism officer. He joins a security unit and unknowingly helps its members apprehend enemy operatives, creating a complicated situation involving identity, loyalty and covert operations.
Sara Ali Khan plays Bilal’s wife and colleague. The supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Suhail Nayyar, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Brijendra Kala and Parul Gulati.
The unusual premise gives the movie an opportunity to appeal to viewers interested in both action and comedy.
What the Occupancy Figures Mean for Sunday
The stronger reported night occupancy provides an encouraging sign, but Sunday will offer a more complete picture of the film’s weekend performance.
If audiences continue attending screenings, the movie could improve its opening-weekend total. If attendance declines sharply, the second-day jump may prove to be a temporary weekend boost.
The coming days will also reveal how well the film holds up against competing releases and whether positive audience recommendations can help maintain ticket sales.
For now, the reported occupancy pattern and higher Saturday earnings show that Udta Teer performed better on its second day. The challenge is to sustain that response beyond the initial weekend.
