Under operation reunion, police have traced three missing persons, including a two-year-old girl, in eight days.

In one case, a 10-year-old resident of Sundar Nagar of Lohara had lost her way home and had gone missing on March 5. After she did not return home, her worried parents approached the police. Assistant sub-inspector Kashmir Singh, in-charge Basant Park police post, said they traced the girl within five hours and handed her over to her parents.

On the same day, the police had also received information from the control room that an unidentified elderly person was lying unconscious on the roadside. The police had rescued him and rushed him to the hospital.

On February 26, the police rescued a two-year-old girl and reunited her with her parents. According to officials, the locals noticed the girl crying on the roadside and alerted the police. As the girl was unable to tell the police anything about herself, teams were formed, which went from door to door to trace her parents.

The Ludhiana police has initiated ‘operation reunion’ to trace missing persons, and has set up a special ‘human trafficking wing’ to trace abducted persons. The Ludhiana police also launched a mobile phone application ‘Gumshuda’ on February 25, 2021 containing pictures and other data pertaining to 3,000 people who have gone missing over the last 10 years.

The police had also established a separate control room for abducted persons that will receive, verify and release the information about abducted persons.

Commissioner of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has directed all police stations, police post in-charges and patrolling parties to keep a tab on missing children and try to trace them.
