The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) mandates maximum daily working hours for pilots to avoid fatigue—a critical factor in ensuring air travel remains safe.

Sources at the airport confirmed that the pilot declined to operate the flight because flying at that point would have breached his duty hour cap. The decision, though unusual in VIP travel scenarios, was entirely in line with aviation safety norms. It served as a rare but clear demonstration that in the world of aviation, no one is above the law—not even high-ranking public officials.

Deputy CM Shinde did not object and waited patiently while alternative travel arrangements were made. His calm demeanor during the delay was praised by airport staff and others present. As the situation unfolded, fellow Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stepped in to organize backup transportation.

Interestingly, during the coordination of this alternative travel plan, Fadnavis came across a kidney patient urgently in need of transportation to Mumbai for treatment. Without hesitation, he arranged for the patient to join the flight, earning admiration across social media platforms for his thoughtful and swift action.

The video of Shinde waiting at the airport and Fadnavis assisting the patient quickly went viral, becoming symbolic of responsible leadership and the equitable application of rules. “It’s rare to see politicians comply so gracefully,” one user noted on X (formerly Twitter). Aviation professionals also chimed in to praise the pilot’s integrity. Captain Aarti Deshmukh, a senior commercial pilot, commented, “The pilot upheld the safety-first philosophy.
