Nagothane police have arrested a 22-year-old man for killing his 32-year-old aunt with whom he had an illicit affair.

The accused, a graduate who worked in a private firm in Roha, was having an affair with his married aunt for over two years. The aunt, a nurse by profession, was married twice and was residing in Pen. Both the accused and victim belonged to the same village in Roha.

On Sunday afternoon, the accused took the victim on his bike to a mountain area in Adgal village, Nagothane. After going on the mountain, the duo had a fight and in a fit of rage, he killed her by hitting her head with a stone. Later, the accused went down and took petrol from his bike and burnt the body. A watchman from a nearby construction site had seen the duo coming and found something suspicious. He clicked photos of the accused and his bike. Later, when he saw smoke from the mountain area, he went and saw that a body was burning and informed the police.

With the help of the photos, the police traced the accused and arrested him. “The accused was irked by her since she used to keep on demanding money from him. Previously, during a fight, the victim had attacked him with a blade, causing injury on his left hand. He also wanted to avenge that attack,” Tanaji Naranvar, senior police inspector from Nagothane police station said. The accused has been sent to police custody for five days.
