Following the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has urged the government to convene an immediate session of Parliament to address the incident and discuss the broader implications for national security.

The attack, which took place on April 22, 2025, in the Baisaran Valley of Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 25 Indian nationals and one from Nepal. The assailants reportedly targeted tourists, segregating them based on religion before opening fire.

Kharge expressed outrage over the attack, questioning the government’s narrative of peace and development in the region. He pointed out that such incidents undermine the claims of normalcy and safety in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Congress leader emphasized the need for a united national response to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of citizens. He called for a comprehensive debate in Parliament to discuss the incident, its causes, and the measures needed to prevent future attacks.

In the aftermath of the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the violence and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. The Cabinet Committee on Security held a meeting to review the situation and discuss strategies to enhance security in the region.

The international community has also condemned the attack, with leaders from various countries expressing condolences and reaffirming their support for India in the fight against terrorism.
