Kalkaji Temple Visit Turns Into Alleged Sexual Assault Case in Nearby Park

A visit to Delhi’s Kalkaji Mandir allegedly ended in a serious crime after a 17-year-old girl reported that she was sexually assaulted by three men in nearby Astha Kunj Park.

According to Delhi Police, the teenager had gone to the temple with a 17-year-old male friend on Monday evening. They reportedly arrived at the temple around 7 pm and later went to Astha Kunj Park, where the alleged incident took place.

The park is situated close to Kalkaji Mandir and the ISKCON temple. Police said the teenagers entered the park at about 7:30 pm.

According to the girl’s statement, three men approached them after they had entered the park. The men, reportedly aged between 25 and 30, allegedly claimed to be police officers.

Police said the men threatened the teenagers. The alleged impersonation of police personnel was reportedly used to intimidate the pair. According to the complainant’s account, one of the men restrained her friend while the three allegedly sexually assaulted her.

The alleged assault was subsequently reported through a PCR call. Police said the call was received at around 8:45 pm, following which the SHO of Amar Colony police station and other personnel went to Astha Kunj Park.

The girl was found with her friend, and officers began taking statements and gathering information about the incident. She was later medically examined at AIIMS, while forensic teams examined the relevant location.

A case was registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act. Police also invoked provisions relating to the alleged involvement of multiple people and other offences reported during the investigation.

Investigators subsequently launched a search for the three suspects. CCTV cameras in and around the park were examined as police attempted to establish the identities and movements of the alleged perpetrators.

One suspect, identified as Asif, was later located near DM Office Road in Amar Colony. According to police, he allegedly opened fire when officers attempted to intercept him.

Police said the suspect fired three rounds. A bullet reportedly hit the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh. The officer returned fire, and one bullet struck Asif in the right leg, according to the police account.

The injured suspect was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment and was subsequently taken into custody.

Police continued searching for the other two suspects. Officials said further investigation would determine their individual roles and establish the full circumstances of the alleged assault.

The case has highlighted concerns over safety in public recreational areas, particularly when individuals allegedly use false claims of official authority to threaten people.

Authorities are also examining physical and electronic evidence connected with the case. The investigation remains underway, and the allegations against the accused are subject to judicial proceedings.
