Jewellery heist goes wrong as speeding robbers crash into owner’s car in Ludhiana

In a bizarre turn of events, robbers fleeing a jewellery store crashed into the vehicle of the proprietor, who alerted by his security system was on his way to foil the heist, in Upkar Nagar on Sunday morning.

As per CCTV footage, six men had broken open the store’s shutters with sharp-edged objects around 2.50am. They stayed within the store for 15 minutes, and decamped with 40,000, gold jewellery worth 3 lakh and silver jewellery worth 60,000.

The complainant, Chetan Madaan, 32, of Civil City said, “I have installed CCTV cameras and other security systems in my shop, which are connected to my mobile phone. Around 3am, I was woken up by an alarm call on my mobile phone. I checked the CCTV cameras and saw that a burglary was underway at my store.”

Madaan rushed to the store with his family members in tow to stop the robbery. He spotted the bike-born accused in the Jagatpuri area. “The accused were speeding and crashed their bikes into my car. I recognised the men who crashed into my car as the same robbers who broke into my store and managed to capture two of them, while four of them managed to flee,” Madaan said, adding that on frisking them, he found some jewellery in their possession.

“I tried calling the police control room, but to no avail. I called a police personnel known to me, and he in turn informed the Division 8 police station,” the jeweller said. The police rushed the accused, who had suffered injuries in the collision, to the hospital.

A case has been registered against Suraj of Gill Chowk and Soni of Basti Abdullapur, while their aides are yet to be identified. The arrested accused are in their 30s, said assistant sub-inspector Jarnail Singh, who is investigating the case. Efforts are on to arrest the four accused, who are on the run.
