Young Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on Sunday scripted a massive Indian record, breaking the legendary Kapil Dev’s 40-year-old feat with his fiery half-century against Sri Lanka on day 2 of the pink-ball Test in Bengaluru.

Pant laced seven boundaries and 2 sixes to reach to the half-century mark in just 28 balls on the second morning of the second Test match of the series as he recorded the fastest half-century ever scored by an Indian batter in Test history.

Kapil Dev had scored a 30-ball 50 in the 1982 Test match against Pakistan in Karachi. Overall, he stands joint-ninth in the elusive list alongside EAV Williams of West Indies, Ian Botham from England, West Indies’ Chris Gayle and New Zealand’s Colin de Grandhomme.
