Jasprit Bumrah took his eighth Test five-wicket haul during the second and final match of the series against Sri Lanka on Sunday. The fast bowler, who had ended Day 1 with three wickets to his name, dismissed Lasith Embuldeniya in the third over of the day before removing Niroshan Dickwella (21) for his fifth wicket. It took Bumrah merely 10 overs to reach the feat, as he took his maiden five-wicket haul on Indian soil.
It was an uninspired batting performance from the Sri Lankan team as there was little-to-no resistance from any batter bar Angelo Mathews, who scored a gritty 43 on a tough surface in Bengaluru.

Bumrah was justifiably the pick of the bowlers with his five wickets, while Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets each. Axar Patel also grabbed the wicket of Charith Asalanka.

As Bumrah achieved the feat on Day 2, the cricket fraternity lauded him. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan lauded the fast bowler, saying that he “would pay to watch Jasprit Bumrah bowl.”
West Indies’ former cricketer and commentator Ian Bishop also heaped praise on Bumrah, insisting that the five-wicket haul was “absolutely deserving” for Bumrah. Wasim Jaffer, meanwhile, lauded Bumrah in his own witty way.
Enroute his five-wicket haul, Bumrah also reached his 300th international wicket. The fast bowler reached the feat with the dismissal of Dickwella.
Earlier, resuming their innings, the visitors lasted for merely 5.5 overs, losing Lasith Embuldeniya (1), Suranga Lakmal (5), Niroshan Dickwella (21), and Vishwa Fernando (8) with the addition of just 23 runs in the first session.
Sri Lanka now trail India by 143 runs after being bowled out on 109. India had earlier put 252 runs on the board, thanks largely to a terrific knock from Shreyas Iyer (92). The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team will be aiming to secure a 2-0 series sweep in Bengaluru before the players disperse to their respective franchises for the beginning of the 2022 Indian Premier League on March 26.
