The centre has now modified its March 4 order, allowing Sikh aviation sector employees to carry kirpans at any domestic airport. The decision of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security came after massive outrage over the earlier order. The March 4 order banned Sikh aviation sector employees from carrying kirpan in person within any Indian airport premises. This was criticised by the leading Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. Subsequently, on March 12, the BCAS removed the ban. Kirpan is a curved dagger that has to be worn next to the body in Sikh religion. Watch this video for more details.
