Six years after the death of Disha Salian, a fresh legal controversy has brought the case back into national headlines. Salian’s father, Satish Salian, has issued a Rs 500 crore legal notice to Aaditya Thackeray and Anil Deshmukh over statements concerning his pursuit of justice.
The notice alleges that the two politicians attempted to portray Satish Salian’s efforts to seek an investigation into his daughter’s death as politically motivated. It reportedly seeks financial compensation as well as public apologies.
Disha Salian died in Mumbai on June 8, 2020, after falling from a high-rise building. She was 28. Police initially treated the incident as an accidental death and registered an Accidental Death Report.
The timing of the incident became a major reason for public interest. Sushant Singh Rajput died six days later. Salian had previously worked as his manager. Over the years, speculation and allegations concerning possible links between the two deaths circulated widely in public discourse.
However, claims made publicly about the circumstances of the deaths have not all been established as facts. The latest investigation is intended to examine the relevant allegations through official channels.
Satish Salian had sought judicial intervention, approaching the Bombay High Court for a fresh investigation. His petition reportedly raised questions about the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death and named several individuals whose roles he wanted examined.
In September 2026, the CBI registered an FIR following developments in the Bombay High Court. Reports say the agency is now examining the case afresh. The FIR reportedly lists Aaditya Thackeray and several other individuals among those whose roles require investigation.
Against this backdrop, the Rs 500 crore legal notice has created another layer to the case.
According to the notice, statements by Thackeray and Deshmukh allegedly questioned Satish Salian’s motives and suggested that his legal efforts were politically motivated. The notice disputes those claims and argues that the statements harmed his reputation and credibility.
It also reportedly challenges an alleged representation that the CBI had already investigated the matter and given Thackeray a clean chit. The legal notice says such a representation was incorrect, according to reports.
The notice reportedly gives the recipients demands that include an unconditional public apology. It seeks publication of the apology through major media platforms and social-media accounts.
Thackeray, however, has denied having any relationship with Disha Salian. In a statement posted on X, he said he had never met or known her. He also described the repeated linking of his name to the case as an evidence-free campaign and called for the official investigation to continue impartially.
The position of Anil Deshmukh is also relevant because he is named alongside Thackeray in the notice. Reports say Deshmukh had previously characterized the allegations concerning Thackeray as part of a conspiracy to defame him.
The legal dispute therefore concerns not only the original death investigation but also the public statements made about Satish Salian’s pursuit of legal remedies.
It is important to distinguish between allegations, legal claims and established findings. The Rs 500 crore amount is being sought by Satish Salian through the legal notice; it is not a court-ordered payment. Likewise, the CBI FIR indicates that an investigation is underway and does not constitute a finding of guilt.
