In a big move, the prices of SII’s Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin vaccine have been slashed to ₹225 per dose at private hospitals. Serum Institute of India’s CEO Adar Poonawala on Saturday announced that the price of Covishield has been cut from Rs. 600 to Rs. 225.
“We are pleased to announce that after discussion with the Central Government, SII has decided to revise the price of COVISHIELD vaccine for private hospitals from Rs.600 to ₹225 per dose. We once again commend this decision from the Centre to open precautionary dose to all 18+,” he wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, Bharat Biotech co-founder Suchitra Ella also announced that the price of Covaxin has been cut down to ₹225 per dose from ₹1200 per dose for the private hosptials. “We welcome the decision to make available precautionary dose for all adults. In consultation with the Central Government, we have decided to revise the price of #COVAXIN from ₹1200 to ₹225 per dose, for #privatehospitals,” she wrote on Twitter.
