3,614 new Covid cases in India in 24 hours, lowest since May 2020

India’s daily Covid-19 cases remained below the 5,000-mark on Saturday, as 3,614 people tested positive for the viral disease in the last 24 hours, data released by the Union ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) showed. With this, the country’s cumulative infection tally has risen to 42,987,875, as per the data.

According to news agency PTI, this is India’s lowest single-day rise since May 12, 2020, when there were 3,604 new infections.

The dashboard also showed that there were as many as 5,185 recoveries during this period, pushing the total number of recovered cases to 42,431,513. There were 89 related fatalities as well, with the cumulative toll rising to 515,803. However, significantly, active cases continued to dip, and are currently at 40,559, down from 42,219 a day ago, a fall of 1660 cases.

Recoveries, deaths and active cases constitute 98.71 per cent, 1.20 per cent and 0.09 per cent of the overall caseload, according to the data.

Also, the daily positivity rate stood at 0.44 per cent as the latest positive infections were from a total of 821,122 samples tested for Covid-19; total 777,758,414 samples have been tested thus far. The weekly positivity rate, meanwhile, was recorded at 0.52 per cent.

 

 

On the vaccination front, 1,818,511 more doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered. This means that since the beginning of the nationwide inoculation drive, on January 16 last year, nearly 1.8 billion doses of Covid-19 jabs have been administered across the country.
