178 Pilgrims from Pakistan Join Delhi’s Urs Festivities Honoring Amir Khusro

Spread the love

Spiritual devotion crossed borders this week as 178 Pakistani pilgrims arrived in New Delhi to participate in the annual Urs of Hazrat Amir Khusro, one of the greatest icons of Sufi mysticism in South Asia. Hosted at the revered Dargah located in the Nizamuddin area, the Urs drew devotees from all walks of life, reaffirming the universal values of love, tolerance, and unity.

The pilgrims, or zaireen, were part of a religious exchange under the long-standing 1974 bilateral agreement. The group included men and women of various age groups, each with personal stories of devotion to Khusro’s spiritual legacy. Among them were poets, scholars, Sufi singers, and common devotees whose connection to the saint transcends generations.

Led by Mr. Salman Sharif, Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires, the group offered prayers and laid the symbolic chaddar on the saint’s tomb. Cultural rituals like qawwali and floral offerings were central to the ceremonies, and the shrine complex was decorated with lights and colors.

At the adjacent Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia, the pilgrims also offered prayers and received blessings from the caretakers. These visits emphasize the shared lineage of Sufi saints and the enduring values of brotherhood and spirituality.

This pilgrimage exemplifies the power of faith to overcome borders and differences—keeping alive the memory of a saint who spoke the language of the heart.
