Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party for unleashing “anarchy” and “jungle raj” in Punjab.
“I’ve never seen such anarchy in Punjab. No one is afraid of law and order. It’s jungle raj. Cold-blooded murders are being committed in broad daylight,” he told news agency ANI. “There should be no priority other than law and order and peace in the state,” the cricketer-turned politician, who had earlier praised the Arvind Kejriwal-led party for its landslide victory in Punjab polls, added.
The government of Bhagwant Mann has been facing heat from opposition parties on several fronts since the commencement of its tenure in Punjab.
The newly elected Punjab cabinet convened a special session of the Assembly on Friday and upped the ante by moving a resolution demanding the immediate transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab. The AAP government has been facing heat from the opposition parties on its decision since then.
Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said a resolution passed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government revealed its ‘double standards’ and was done on “someone else’s commands”.
Haryana home minister Anil Vij on Saturday dubbed Punjab’s AAP government a “bachha (children’s) party”, lacking “complete knowledge of issues”.
The AAP was also accused of cheating people by nominating ‘non-Punjabis’, ‘outsiders’ and ‘businessmen’ for the March 31 Rajya Sabha polls.
A day after the AAP was declared winner of the Punjab election on March 10, Sidhu, who was then the president of the state unit of the Congress, had said the result was “the voice of God” and that he humbly accepted the mandate of the people of Punjab.
